Copics – Hair and Skin

In looking through my archives, I noticed that as much as I talk about Copics, I have surprisingly little information about Copics in this blog. So I’m on a mission to change that. I’m by no means an expert, but I’ve certainly done a lot of coloring, and I should be doing a better job of sharing my experience.

One of the most common questions I get asked about Copics is what colors to use for hair and skin. The answer is there is no answer. The possibilities are nearly as varied as the people in the world. Still, that doesn’t stop me from having a few go-to combos, which you can see above. This is really just a small small sample, but it’s also a great starting point, especially for beginners. In fact, since I made the chart I’ve come up with a brown hair combo that I now use almost exclusively. (I have brown hair, and I tend to color my people to look like me. I’ve found that most people do this.) Anyway, add E33, 35, 37 and 59 to the list above. It’s similar to the hair on the bottom left, but without the red undertones.

I made this chart a little over a year ago, and I refer to it often. But more and more lately I find myself coloring in places other than my home, and I keep wishing I had my chart online somewhere. So now I’ve fixed that for myself, and I hope it helps a few of my readers as well.

I recommend for everyone to have something similar in their sample book. Just stamp an image several times across the page, and play around with it.
