Patriotic AJ

I intended to make/post this card for the 4th of July, but I was traveling then I was working, then I forgot about it, and now here we are, only 14 days late. Whatever. We don’t have to limit our celebration of the USA to one day, do we?

I was first drawn to this little AJ image because he looks like my younger brother (round face and all), who’s in the Army. Then I realized he also has the same initials as my other younger brother, who is not in the Army, but who is extremely patriotic. (If one measures patriotism in number of spandex American flag jumpsuits owned. I wish I was kidding.)

Patriotic AJ from The Stamping Boutique was so much fun (but also a huge challenge) to color. Getting a smooth blue around all those stars in the flag is no easy feat. The uniform jacket also posed a problem, because none of the Copic blues are quite dark enough for the so-navy-it’s-almost-black dress blue jacket. I added a little N9 to the B20s, which helped, but I’d liked to have gotten it a little darker. (Note, the blends look better in person, for some reason my camera really wants you to see the contrast between the gray and blue).

The paper is from the I {Heart} America line from Best Creation. It’s glittery.
