I Love This Card

Is it wrong to think so highly of something I made myself? If it is, I don’t want to be right.
This is one of three thank you notes that I wish I could say I’d already mailed. I like it so much I’m thinking about scrapping the other two and making more like this. I’m just so happy with everything about it.

You may recognize the paper from my ornament tutorial. It’s a good thing I don’t remember where this set came from, because I would go out and buy stacks of it. The patterns are just so cute and whimsical. For some reason that I can’t quite put my finger on, they remind me of visiting my Aunt Helen’s house.

The medallion in the middle is made with a technique called–I kid you not–teabag folding. It originated in Holland, where the little paper stars were made by folding up decorative teabag envelopes. This is a relatively simple star, made by folding 8 squares into interlocking triangles.

But my favorite thing about this card is the stitching. I’ve been wanting to try sewing on paper for a long time. But alas, I don’t have a sewing machine. The patterns on the paper just screamed quilt though, so I pulled out my paper piercer and a needle and thread and did it by hand. It’s not as straight and perfect as it could be, but I think it still really adds a finished look to the card. I’m completely addicted to this technique now.
