Candy Cane Card

This card was so much fun to make, and relatively quick too.

The design is based on CPS #189, though I modified it to fit a standard A-2 envelope. The patterned cardstocks came from my stash, and the Candy Cane La-La image is one that I actually colored several weeks ago. I often stamp a page full of images and just sit an color for fun; then I can stash them away to use on future cards and layouts, or I can save them to keep track of my favorite color combinations and techniques.

Because it’s the current challenge over at Caardvarks, I decided to decorate the interior of this card as well. I generally leave my cards blank on the inside until I’m ready to send them. They’re more versatile that way.

I decided to copy the vertical stripes from the front of the card, using all three prints. Originally I only decorated the inner right side, but then the left looked bare and lonely, so I added stripes there as well.

The sentiment is stamped on plain white cardstock that I very lightly distressed with Peeled Paint and Fired Brick.

And here’s a simple trick: whenever I cut through colored or patterned cardstock that has a white core, I run the edges over an ink pad. This helps smooth any raggedness that a dull trimmer blade might cause, and it also makes the paper look more finished. Distress Ink is great for this (really, it’s great for everything), because the pad is nice and thick and raised off the base. You can just lightly drag the edge of your paper along the edge of your pad and you get perfect coverage. Don’t push too hard, you don’t want to actually see the ink on the front of the paper. It’s one of those things that you don’t notice when it’s there, but you do notice when it isn’t, know what I mean?
